Robert Ivy, Chief Executive Officer and executive president of AIA (The American Institute of Architects) will be awarded by the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award by MIAL (Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters), which is privately funded and nonprofit organization, on June 2. This award is for the people living in Mississippi whose artistic skills are unique, attractive and worth recognition. In AIA, they create reliable, secure and long-lasting buildings for the community and work in professional standards where members have work ethics when providing solutions to the community at large.
This award has been honored to actor Morgan Freeman, writer Shelby Foote, writer Eudora Welty, singer Leontyne Price and the late artist Walter Anderson. Robert Ivy will be the first architect to have ever received the Polk Award; he will be awarded together with stained-glass Artist Andrew Cary of Pearl River Glass Studio. The president of MIAL, Nancy LaForge has recognized Robert as an architect whose work is beneficial to the general public since it is easily accessible and Carl Elefante, president of AIA, added that he an ambassador of writing, editing, and architecture for the company.
Robert Ivy did his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of the South and later received his Masters in Architecture from Tulane University. He has been awarded when working in Architectural Record as editor-in-chief including National Magazine for General Excellence. He has also spearheaded in McGraw-Hill’s Design and construction media in China and in the Middle East where he set a Mandarin version of the architectural record. In his books, he has shown his compositional skills broadly, for example, Fay Jones: Architect which expresses high levels of art design produce and has received Deans Medal from the University of Arkansas school in the School of architecture. He is a performer, and his standards of expertise have grown AIA to global footprint which is recognized as the highest membership level it has made in history. He is titled as “Master Architect” which is given to known architects in the world by public architecture. Ludwig Rohe Mies Van Der Rohe, Leoh Ming Pei FAIA, and R. Buckminster Fuller are the only bearers of that title.
