Lacey And Lakin Outline Reasons For Starting The Fronterra Fund

Posted on 18 May, 2018 in Activism

Organizations that are working to enforce the fundamental rights of people within a country are a necessity and are an essential part of the progress that a state sees.

In a country like America, one would think that the amount of social evils that people are subjected to is relatively limited, but this doesn’t hold true for everyone in the country.  Learn more about Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin: http://www.laceyandlarkinfronterafund.org/about-lacey-larkin-frontera-fund/jim-larkin/ and http://james-larkin.com/about/

There are underlying social evils that people are exposed to on a daily basis, some, at the hands of their fellow countrymen, and others, at the hands of people in positions of power.

When someone in a governmental or authoritative post is the one inflicting the injustice, it sets back the country by an incredible amount.

One of the instances, where this has had a significant impact on the workings of the company, was at the hands of Joe Arpaio, who previously served as the Sheriff of Maricopa County for over twenty-five years.

Arpaio always possessed strong idealistic views about the country and the status of its people. To him, Americans were only those who had white skin, regardless of their citizenship standings. To him, everyone coming from other parts of the world were illegal immigrants, even if they had valid citizenship and green card. Read more: Michael Lacey | LinkedIn and Michael Lacey | Twitter

He used this view to cause a significant amount of distress to people, particularly to those belonging to the Latin American community living in America. Since he served as the Sheriff of Maricopa County, the area that had the most significant impact was the state of Arizona.

People belonging to the Latin American community within America had to continually face discrimination at the hands of people who associated with him and had to live in constant fear of imprisonment, even if they had done nothing wrong.

Because of the position that he held and the strong sway that Arpaio had on members of the Latin American community, it becomes harder to be able to convict him for his crimes.

Two people who were responsible for the light that was finally shed on Arpaio was Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, who are two individuals who had to face oppression at the hands of Arpaio for something that wasn’t illegal but was something that Arpaio did not like.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin had written an article about Arpaio, outlining the various deeds that he had committed. This did not bode well with Arpaio who then proceeded to imprison Lacey and Larkin falsely.

Upon their release, Lacey and Larkin knew that they had to take matters into their own hands, which is what led to the lawsuit that was filed against him. It was only after five years that Lacey and Larkin were able to see any remedy, but just in the form of monetary compensation.

To further contribute towards the efforts to arrest Arpaio, Lacey and Larkin decided that they would start up an organization that worked to help them achieve their goals.

Within a short span of time, the organization started gaining nationwide support who all shared the views and opinions regarding the justice that should have already been granted to Joe Arpaio.
